Commission a custom made, unique piece of artwork, designed especially for you.
Why commission a painting?
with colours that match your home decor, or maybe a painting of a family pet, requesting a commission allows you to have a tailor made artwork based on your own ideas or preferences. Despite nature being my subject matter of choice, I am open to all ideas and colour schemes. I always enjoy the challenge of painting something different! The benefit of a commissioned painting is that you can decide exactly what sized canvas or frame would work in the desired space.
What can I expect from the commission process?
The first step is to fill out the form below with a brief description of the sort of work you are looking for, with any specifications included, and I will get back to you shortly. For residents in the southern part of the UK, a home visit can be arranged to discuss ideas and get a feel for what would work well in the home environment. For those of you in further parts of the UK, a phone call will be arranged to discuss ideas in more detail. Unfortunately, I currently do not offer commissions internationally.
After all the specifications have been agreed, you will receive a quote of the total costs, including potential shipping expenses. At this point, I will request a deposit of 50% of the artwork costs to begin.
What happens next?
I will start with a quick watercolour sketch of the ideas, which will be sent via email. At this point, you can decide whether there is anything that needs to be changed. If you are unsure of a colour scheme, I can paint several sketches with different shades to give you a better image of what the final work will look like. If you are happy with the sketch, I will continue to paint the final piece. I will photograph the finished painting before varnishing, to check that you are happy with the painting, so that any final touches can be done before completion.
The rest of artwork and potential shipping costs will be payed at this point, and you will receive the completed artwork, along with the signed sketches.
How much will it cost?
A commissioned artwork will cost 15% more than a pre-done original, due to the extra time and attention given to discussing ideas, pre-painting sketches and potential home visits. If you have a budget, I can give you examples of the type of work and sizing I can offer for that price range. Once the deposit has been paid, I do not offer refunds, so make sure that you are certain that you want to go ahead with the commission. However, if you change your mind and want to change the painting idea in any way, this will not affect the price, as long as you let me know before I start painting the final work.
How long will the process take?
Commissions will take a minimum of a month - 3 months to complete, so make sure to contact me in advance if the painting is needed for a specific date. Especially around Christmas time, I would advice contacting me no later than October to ensure the artwork is ready on time. I stop taking large commissions for Christmas on the 1st December. Personalised greeting cards can be requested up until 20th December.
Artwork delivery & collection
Paintings can be delivered anywhere in the UK, and will be sent by Royal Mail 1st class. The costs of delivery will vary depending on the size and weight of the artwork. If you would prefer to collect the painting from my studio, we can arrange a date for the artwork to be collected with no shipping costs involved. For Brighton based or Reading based clients, I will deliver the artwork myself for a smaller fee.
Please contact me if you have any other questions about the commission process, and I look forward to hearing from you!The commission form can be found below.
For canvas paintings and framed work, there are some elements you might want to consider: Size, Warm tone/Cool tone, subject matter, colouring etc. Fill out the detail form below, and feel free to include any high quality reference photos if you have a more specific idea of what you want.
