Hello and welcome to my blog! I have thought about starting one for a while as I feel it is time to start connecting with my audience more, and showing you a little more of how I create my art and inspiration. I also hope to post content on my other passions of mine like interior design. My vision for this blog is to show you that the artwork on this site is so much more to me than just a pretty picture - there is a story and a message behind each one and while it feels like a very personal thing for me to share, it seems like this is the way forward. I'm also hoping to be hosting regular, yearly exhibitions from now on, so I want to make sure there is a way for those of you interested in what I do, to be able to keep updated on what's happening.
So a little information about me... I've been painting and making a mess since 2000, when I was born, and from that moment on I have never stopped. I was lucky to have parents and teachers who recognised my passion and have encouraged me to continue and grow in this area. I honestly can't imagine doing anything else with my life. Creativity consumes all aspects of my life, and I find myself longing to take part in all the many forms it takes from songwriting, to cooking, to crafts. In painting I have found my most comfortable place, where I feel no limits as to what I can and can't do. This is where I have focused my time and effort, and since finishing college in May 2018, I have worked hard to slowly build up an art business, which will allow me to continue doing what I love. On a one off trip to Brighton with my college in 2016, I was completely inspired by the city and the unique, arty culture here, which is why, as soon as I was able, I moved down here to build my life and business in the centre of it all. I have been here roughly 3 months, and I am looking forward to what the rest of this year holds for me.
I am currently preparing for my upcoming exhibition in April 2019, taking place at Gallery 40 in the North Laines in Brighton. This is my second solo exhibition, but will be my first here in Brighton, so I am very excited to see what happens! For 2019, I launched a new collection which is completely inspired by this city and the ocean, and the pieces from this collection will have pride of place in the exhibit. The space is quite small which means I won't be able to have my full collection on display, but any artwork not displayed will still be for sale and can be purchased at the exhibition. I know that some of you will be travelling quite a distance to get here, so this time any purchased artwork can be taken home the same day. Alternatively, the work can be shipped, but obviously there will be extra costs. I hope this gives you some more information but if you still have any questions, please feel free to get in touch.
Thank you all for reading, I know this is only brief, but I plan on sharing so much more over the coming weeks, so please subscribe to my email list, as this will notify you every time I release a new post.
Hope everyone has a good week!
- Sophie
