This painting always seems to stir up a conversation at exhibitions, because it's very different from my usual style. As I was creating it, I knew what sort of effect I wanted to create, and everything from the pastel colour palette to the more traditional composition was very intentional. The bouquet needed to be extravagant, bursting with flowers in full bloom, the flowers seemingly coming out of nowhere.
This painting represents the abundant blessings of God. The idea that if we ask for a flower, we get above and beyond what we asked for. The antique, traditional feel gives the idea that these flowers have been in waiting. These blessings were stored up for us from the beginning of time, waiting for their moment to be given, not in pieces, but in a full bouquet that lacks nothing.
The painting itself is like that of a traditional painting in a grand mansion, or palace. It's full of wealth, richness, and prosperity. The flowers in full bloom are thriving.
